Angel Christmas Baskets for Posada del Sol
Beginning with Christmas 1996, the Westside CAN Center sponsored a Christmas Luncheon and food basket filled with staples or “Angel Basket” for the residents of Posada del Sol. Situated at 17th & Summit, Posada del Sol is a HUD high-rise apartment building for seniors with very low income or persons with physical challenges. The majority of the residents have spent the majority of their lives on the Westside.
Young people and residents volunteer to fill the food staples purchased at Aldi’s. The box helps supplement their food stamps and enables them to share a little Christmas with their families. After the boxes are distributed, the residents are our guests at a catered luncheon. Each resident receives a small gift provided by a Westside family in memory of their parents. A little holiday entertainment is provided.
Unfortunately, we must suspend this program for 2006. The cost of this program is $2,000.00. The last few years we have not met our total financial need for this program and our last minute benefactress cannot contribute this year. We have been unable to find funding for this program again this year, therefore, we made the decision to cancel the program for 2006 and we will revisit this in 2007.
